“What the River Knows,” featured in Persona (2008), is the coming-of-age story of a young girl’s journey into the mystery of her lost aunt’s past. Aunt Alaina has been gone for some time, but the letters she has left behind, of young handsome men, dancing, and long days at the beach, intrigue her niece. Living in fantasies, the reader follows the narrator on a journey of connection, love, and release.
Published by Texas State University in their annual literary magazine Persona.
Winner of the Thomas Gates Fiction Award for 2008.
